'That moment' after starting the new job ...

So there is that time a few months into a new job when you have ‘that moment’ …

  • Can I do this?

  • Is this really what I want?

  • How is everyone else coping and I’m not?

The answers invariably are “yes”, “most likely” and “you are you just don’t realise it”.

The reality is you are probably being too hard on yourself and not giving yourself enough credit for actually changing jobs, learning new skills and putting yourself outside of your comfort zone. Time for a cheesy quote which annoyingly I think is true …

“Life always begins with one step outside of your comfort zone.” Shannon L. Alder

So what should you do when you have those feelings and are in ‘that moment’? Well of course it depends but a good place to starts is to be kind to yourself, give yourself a break and above all ‘don’t panic’! Ask yourself questions like:

  • What was is that made me make the move?

  • How can I create space for me?

  • How can I reward myself for being brave enough to make a change?

This feeling is not unique and I’d even go as far as to say that it is common! Keep faith in yourself, give yourself a break and don’t forget to breath.
